Occasional Digest - a story for you

From Dave Kidd at the Emirates

Virgil Van Dijk should not be on the pitch to head that equaliser, after kicking out at Kai Havertz early on.

The official Premier League line is that the VAR Michael Salisbury deemed it ‘petulant not reckless’.

The Liverpool skipper is a very lucky boy – but he has capitalised on waek marking to cancel out Bukao Saka’s opener. This is a belter so far.

22 – Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

How’s he missed that??

The cross finds Merino who completely misses his kick from six yards, sending it well well wide!

Really poor from the Spaniard, who is down getting treatment on his shoulder after his fall. Is there a cure for embarrassment, though?

21 – Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool

Touchy subject with Arsenal supporters as they jump out their seats looking for a yellow card for Diaz.

He knocks the ball away after Saka went down for a free kick from wide.

Mike Dean tells Sky Sports: “I can see where they’re coming from but he hasn’t delayed the restart as they’re not set and there’s no-one to take the free kick.

“So I can see why he’s not booked Diaz.”

18 – GOAL! Arsenal 1-1 LIVERPOOL

Anything one skipper can do, the other one can too!

It comes from a corner, with Alexander-Arnold curling in towards goal.

Luis Diaz gets the run across to flick it on and VIRGIL VAN DIJK, in a wrestling match with Thomas Partey, is too strong and nods home from a couple of yards out.

If he was at any fault for the Arsenal goal, he’s made up for it here!
