YERSON MOSQUERA was lucky to avoid seeing red in his Premier League opener.

The Wolves defender, 23, was dragged down by Arsenal‘s Kai Havertz, who was clearly trying to rile him up.

It worked, and Mosquera appeared to put his hand around the German‘s neck as he got up.

He seemed to change his mind and pulled it away while protesting his innocence, probably just in time to get away with it.

The referee and VAR were satisfied by Arsenal fans thought otherwise.

One said: “Havertz being strangled you love to see it.”

“Strangled Havertz…then this. This guy is weird,” added another referring to a separate incident when Mosquera reached for Gabriel Jesus’ BUM before being shoved to the ground by the Brazil striker.

A third fumed: “Kai Havertz goes down and gets strangled – Bukayo Saka gets a yellow card instead.”

A fourth screamed: “HOW WAS THIS NOT A RED CARD???”

A fifth had clearly had enough already, adding: “PL referees already making the usual mistakes & decisions in GW1.”

Thankfully for Gunners fans, they won regardless.

Havertz, 25, was the man to get them off the mark in the first half – before the clash with Mosquera after the break.

And Wolves allowed Bukayo Saka to cut inside onto his left foot soon later, with predictable results.

It was not a vintage performance but two goals and three points are a good start for Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard has called for perfection from his side as they look to eclipse Pep Guardiola’s dominant Manchester City.

Next up is a trip to Aston Villa, who are taking on West Ham in today’s evening kick-off.
