Occasional Digest - a story for you

A FORMERLY engaged woman had strong negative feelings about not only her former partner but also the ring he gave her when he proposed.

She admitted that their relationship was all about him, but she still wears the engagement ring even after they broke up.

Reddit user AmbitiousYetMoody opened up about the story behind her engagement ring in a post.

“The ring, like our relationship, was all about him,” she said.

She also shared an image of the special jewelry item, which wasn’t the most traditional.

It was a deep shade of blue which wasn’t her top choice.

She said it was “his favorite color” and not really what she wanted in an engagement ring.

The Reddit user admitted that it was a “compromise” because she was “so excited to be engaged.”

Some Redditors suspected that it was a sapphire, but she revealed that it was a blue topaz.

“The ring is pretty, I think, but for me, it’s the memories associated with it that make me not like it as much,” she added.

Another Redditor said it was “rude of him” to cater to his wants when it came to her ring.

“Don’t worry. It didn’t work out and he got married to some other woman within a year. Hopefully, they are a better match than we were and he has since improved!” she replied.

Even though the couple didn’t have a wedding and he remarried, she explained why she kept the jewelry.

It still has “a lot of sentimental value” because the stones were purchased from my parents’ honeymoon and repurposed into the ring.

“That’s soooo pretty. I’d love that as a normal ring,” a woman commented.

“I wear it occasionally as a normal ring because the stones are sentimental from my parents,” she replied.

As an engagement ring, she admitted that it was a “constant visual reminder that he was always first” which is hard for her to think about.

She also said that it was “always a reminder” of their “toxic dynamic.”

She “assigned a new meaning to the ring” and wears it “every now and then.”

Other Redditors offered their two cents and supportive words.

“That is a GORGEOUS ring, everything else aside,” one wrote.

“It’s really gorgeous, but I’m sad you didn’t get your dream ring,” another said.
