She explained that it is the traveller tradition not to go to secondary school, but if her daughter wishes to pursue a career, she would think about it.

Posting on social media, Suzy responded to a question from a follower that read: “Are you gonna follow the gypsy tradition of your daughter not going to secondary?”

Suzy revealed that for the past couple of years, her young daughter has told her that in the future, she wants to be a vet and work with animals.

Suzy then explained that if her daughter wants to follow a career as a vet, she will “allow her too” and will “help her get to where she needs to be”.

However, Suzy shared that if her little darling changes her mind and doesn’t want to pursue a career, then Suzy doesn’t agree with her going to school.

Suzy explained: “I don’t see the point in her going to secondary school if she’s going to just go there and mess about and be stupid.

“It’s gonna sound ridiculous to most people, but we are brought up in a culture where we don’t need schooling. We just need the bare essentials, the bare minimum, counting, reading and writing. That is it.

“It would be completely pointless – unless you’re going to have a career, I don’t see the point in going to secondary school.”

The influencer explained that she moved around and went to a lot of different primary schools, but didn’t go to secondary school.

Instead, she went to college to do hair and beauty, but dropped out less than a month later.

Suzy confirmed: “I came away with no GCSEs, I came away with nothing.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @cuzinsuzyofficial1, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 94,200 views in just 20 hours.

But social media users were left divided by Suzy’s claims – whilst many agreed with the gypsy woman, others were keen to question the mother.

One person said: “I think it’s good that you are going to let your daughter choose her own path. You’re a very good mum.”

What is the law on sending children to school?

According to Gov.uk, you must make sure your child gets a full-time education that meets their needs (for example if they have special educational needs).

You can send your child to school or educate them yourself.

Children must get an education between the school term after their 5th birthday and the last Friday in June in the school year they turn 16.

You’ll be contacted by either:

  • the school – if your child is enrolled in school and does not turn up (even if they’re only absent for a day)
  • the council’s education welfare officer – if they think your child is not getting a suitable education at home

You can be prosecuted if you do not give your child an education.

You’ll normally get warnings and offers of help from the local council first.

Another added: “I am not a gypsy but 100% I agree with you.”

A third commented: “Love this. If a mum can’t support her daughter with her choices, no one can.”

At the same time, someone else asked: “Respectfully, how do you think she’s going to make that massive decision at the young age she will be?

“Her older 30 something year old self with kids would probably regret that.”

To this, Suzy replied and confirmed: “It’s our way.”

Meanwhile, another user penned: “Sorry but what if she doesn’t have anyone to support her and she’s left with no education or experience?

“Very risky to leave yourself that vulnerable.”

In response, Suzy wrote: “She will always have someone to support her.”
