An affordable $10 skincare buy helps her treat her darkened arms and chest.
Redditor Alicewonders12 shared the beauty tip in a viral post.
She explained that when the skin gets sun damaged, it’s impossible to undo it.
However, people can reduce the appearance of the discoloration with a bit of effort.
“The damage is already there, unfortunately. You can possibly lighten your skin, though,” she said.
Alice explained that she goes to great lengths to avoid the sun as much as possible.
“This is what I do… in the summer, I am very, very, very careful about sun exposure, and I am good about covering up or wearing SPF,” she said.
To prevent buildup and to keep her skin as soft as possible, she also incorporates a cheap $13 product into her summer body skincare routine.
“I moisturize and exfoliate the skin on my arms and chest frequently,” she said.

“When it’s not sunny season or if I know I won’t be exposed to sun, I use lactic acid from The Ordinary (the large bottle), put it on a cotton round, and put that on my skin damaged areas (chest and arms), then moisturize a lot,” she said about the product.
While the routine is effective at brightening her skin, she warned viewers about a drawback.
“The problem is [that] using lactic acid and all [these] lightening products are great, but they make your skin more sensitive to the sun,” she explained.
The practice, she said, may end up further damaging the skin if users are not careful.
“[It may cause damage] even worse than the damage you may have caused before,” she said.
The key, she explained, is to avoid using the product when she knows she’ll be putting her skin at risk.

“So I don’t use the acids if I know I’m going to be in the sun,” she said.
“Sometimes I skip it during summer just because I’m paranoid.”
Others agreed that avoiding products that will make the skin more sensitive was the move.
“This is really important to note,” agreed another.
“ANYTHING that makes your skin more sensitive will make it more susceptible to sun damage.”
“I don’t think you’re paranoid, just cautious,” said another.
