Occasional Digest - a story for you

MANY people know that the first rule about attending a wedding is you shouldn’t upstage the bride.

However, one bridesmaid has come under fire for wanting to wear an “attention grabbing” dress to the nuptials of her close friend.

People were quick to criticise the 'transparent' bridesmaid dress and also say it is too similar to the bride's gown2

A photo of the bridesmaid’s dress, which the bride let her choose, was shared on Reddit, and people were quick to chime in with their views.

The divisive dress was shared by the maid-of-honour, who asked: “Is this bridesmaids dress too similar to the wedding dress?”

She showed how the bride was to be wearing a white gown with a boned corset bodice and an A-line chiffon skirt.

Meanwhile, the bridesmaid had chosen a very similar style to the wedding dress in blue, with a defined bodice and floaty skirt.

The maid-of-honour offered some context behind the dress, and wrote: “The bride wants the bridesmaids to wear dresses that they love/reflect their own style within a similar colour palette.

“One of the bridesmaids has picked a very pretty whimsical dress, but the MOB [mother of the bride] is concerned that it basically looks like the bride’s dress but in blue?

“The bride doesn’t want to stop the bridesmaid from wearing a dress that she loves as she was so excited to order it.

“I just wanted to get the community’s take on if you think this is okay for a bridesmaid’s dress or if it is too close to the actual wedding dress.

“For what it’s worth, as MOH [maid of honour] I’m wearing a plain silk cowl neck dress. Thanks everyone for your insight.”

People took to the comments to offer their views, with one saying: “It would be different if all the bridal party were wearing the same style.

I wanted to keep costs down for my wedding and found the perfect gown in a charity shop for £13 – people say it is ‘timeless’

“But just the one is too similar to the bridal gown.”

Another added: “The transparent bodice seems odd for a bridesmaid dress.

“Like trying to pull attention away from the bride.”

And a third commented: “I think this is WAY too close. I would not appreciate this as a bride.

“My eyes went to the dress on the right immediately.”
