Referee David Dickinson turns up at Dens Park for the Saturday morning pitch inspection

Dundee’s Scottish Premiership match with Motherwell will undergo another pitch inspection at 13:00 BST.

The surface was protected by covers hired from Celtic in a bid to avoid a fifth Dens Park postponement this term.

Despite heavy rainfall the pitch was deemed playable on Thursday, but after a second inspection on Saturday morning, a third will take place just two hours before kick-off.

Motherwell have apologised to their fans for any inconvenience.

Dundee’s encounter with Rangers, which has been rescheduled for this Wednesday, was postponed last month just an hour-and-a-half before the game was due to start.

Another potential call-off could result in a fixture headache for the SPFL, who are eager to get the match played this weekend as the Premiership’s pre-split games are set to conclude next week.

Motherwell have expressed concerns about plans to potentially move the fixture to Sunday or Monday, which was suggested to take place behind closed doors at Airdrie.

A SPFL spokesperson said they “have been working on a number of contingency measures”.

Peterhead’s trip to Bonnyrigg Rose and Elgin City v Spartans in the fourth tier both go ahead after passing pitch inspections, as does Stirling Albion’s League 1 encounter with Alloa Athletic.
