A Sunshine Coast teenager has apologised for her role in torturing a 13-year-old girl at Noosa last year, in an incident that went viral on social media.

Three girls — aged 12, 13 and 14 at the time — were arrested last March for assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a house in Tewantin, in the Noosa Shire.

The two eldest accused faced court for sentencing today after pleading guilty to charges including torture, deprivation of liberty, and attempting to pervert justice.

In response to mobile phone footage of the torture being shown to a closed court, the second-eldest of the accused — now aged 14 — stood up in the dock to apologise for her role, saying she “feels really bad for what [she] did” and that the victim “doesn’t deserve that”.

Judge Gary Long determined the footage, which was viewed on social media app TikTok millions of times before being removed, met the definition of child exploitation material.

Judge Long adjourned the sentencing hearing to resume on Wednesday.

The third co-accused is expected to face court next month.

More to come.
