And she was no basic shampoo-using mane master.
“I haven’t used shampoo or conditioner in over a year now, and last time I shared that I had a lot of questions so I’m going to show you my haircare routine,” said Logan Barbosa (@thisiswildhomestead).
She didn’t need common hair products when she could use her more potent potion.
“I wash my hair about every seven to ten days and I use rhassoul clay mixed with water to form a hair mask and I use that in place of shampoo,” she said.
She made sure to use between one teaspoon to one tablespoon of her favorite clay.
For others looking to try her unconventional technique, rhassoul clay from Essential Organics sells for $8.50.
The clay, which can also be used in soaps and skin products, is described as offering a higher percentage of silica and magnesium than other clays.
Studies have also shown that it is able to reduce dryness and flakiness.
She also found that she could live without conditioner.
“I used apple cider vinegar mixed with water,” she said.
Her concoction called for one part apple cider vinegar and five parts water – and voila, her mask was ready to go.
After rinsing her hair with water in the shower, Logan rubbed her DIY mask into her scalp.
“That’s typically the dirtiest part of any hair washing day,” she said.
She was also grateful that she no longer had to deal with toxic ingredients.
Logan then used a scalp massager to release any oils and leftover dirt before letting everything sit in her hair for about ten minutes.
Before getting out of the shower, she grabbed her jar of apple cider vinegar and added warm water which she then used as a rinse over her hair.
She let that sit before brushing her hair out – and she was never going back to basics.
Logan showed off her now extra curly and shiny strands.
“After over a year of no shampoo or conditioner here’s what I notice. Curlier hair, more defined and voluminous. My hair feels alive,” she said.
She was also loving the mix for helping her locks shed less.
“I lose way less hair. When I was using traditional hair soaps I was easily losing a handful of hair each time I showered, now it’s much less,” she said.
Her fans also seemed intrigued by her mask mix.
“This is so interesting,” said one follower.
She even shared one extra tip for super dry hair days – making an aloe vera gel.
Logan was also saving big time on her haircare routine.
“I don’t pay tons of money for hair products and instead spend maybe $30 a year on everything I use,” she said.
