Two people, including an 11-year-old boy, have died and a third is in hospital after a fiery car crash in Victoria’s north.

Police say the car veered off the Murray Valley Highway and hit a tree near Mount Terrick Road in Echuca on Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle then burst into flames.

There were three people travelling in the car.

A 26-year-old woman from Moama died at the scene.

The boy was treated at the scene but died from his injuries.

The driver of the car is assisting police with the investigation.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Echuca, is in hospital in a stable condition.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated by the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
