Occasional Digest - a story for you

PRINCESS Diana once shocked parents at Prince Harry’s sports day in 1991 when she chucked royal protocol aside to compete in the mums’ race.

In recently resurfaced footage, the former royal demonstrated her fun and daring side by joining in with proceedings at the annual school event.

The former Princess of Wales can be seen walking barefoot after ditching her shoes and socks on the field as she prepares to line up alongside other mums.

The fascinating footage captures the much loved royal smiling and engaging in conversation ahead of starting the race.

But once the race begins, Diana goes full throttle in front of stunned spectators.

She races to the finish line ahead of two other mum’s either side of her, although the footage doesn’t quite confirm whether she finished in first place ahead of the rest.

Nonetheless, Diana impressed with her performance and could be seen smiling and giggling with her fellow school mums after the race.

And the performance gave the British public yet another reason to fall in love with her.

The video was uploaded to a Diana fan account on TikTok, garnering 1.7million likes at the time of writing.

In the comments section, viewers revealed just how impressed they were with her performance.

One person said: “She wanted to win… for sure! Love her energy!”

A second commented: “Imagine running with THE PRINCESS.”

A third added: “An amazing person she just didn’t care about the consequences and just went for it.”

Ironically, it wasn’t the first time the Princess had participated in the Mothers’ Race at William and Harry’s pre-preparatory school, having competed previously in 1989 and 1990.

Diana also apparently came first in 1987.

It’s safe to say that Diana certainly wasn’t afraid to show her children how it was done.

But her passion for embracing a normal life for both her and her children appears to have been passed on.

Kate and William are also said to be ”like a normal mum and dad” when it comes to their children’s school events, a source has claimed.

The couple are reported to be ”hands-on” parents who never miss an event at the swanky Lambrook School in Berkshire where their three kids Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte and Prince Louis are pupils.

According to Hello! magazine, Kate and Will, both 41, take part in all school activities and even ‘queued up’ ”for the tombola” in a recent fundraising drive.
