Occasional Digest - a story for you

Residents across NSW are waking up to a soggy Boxing Day after severe weather on Christmas Day soaked a large part of the state.

Much of the state experienced giant hail, heavy rain and flash flooding, including Sydney, the Central West, Riverina, Central Coast and Hunter regions.

The South Coast bore the brunt of 24 hours of bad weather, with some parts receiving more than 180 millimetres of rain.

Emergency services conducted six flood rescues in the region, including two at Kiama, two at Albion Park, one at Laggan and one at Bemboka.

Hail battered Grenfell, Orange, Yass and parts of the Riverina, and damaged vehicles, skylights and roofs.

Intense rain fell across south-eastern parts of NSW with Eurobodalla copping 156 millimetres in three hours.

NSW SES volunteers responded to 312 incidents on Christmas Day, which followed 492 incidents recorded on Christmas Eve.

More than 1,100 NSW SES volunteers assisted property owners across the two days.
