The 25-minute meal not only included turkey but also dessert and appetizers.
Rebecca (@dollartreedinners) shared the meal prep idea in a video with over 1.2 million TikTok followers.
The content creator took viewers on a trip to the grocery store, grabbing a package of smoked turkey legs.
“These were $3.71 for two of their large legs,” she said, showing off the label.
Next, she picked up brussel sprouts and butter sauce for just a buck as well as some instant mashed potatoes for $1.25 and stuffing mix for $1.19.
Thanksgiving isn’t Thanksgiving without gravy and the content creator made sure to pick up a $1 can of gravy.
For dessert, she picked up some pecan and apple pie for $1 each, for a total of $10.25 for the entire haul.
“I haven’t even mentioned the best part, this entire meal can be made entirely in the microwave and it comes together in about 25 minutes,” she said.
Starting with the potatoes, she microwaved two cups of water for 45 seconds and whisked in the instant potatoes.
For the stuffing, she microwaved a cup and a half of water, mixed in two tablespoons of vegetable oil, and stirred in her stuffing mix.
For the main course, the turkey legs, she placed the legs into a glass container, poured the gravy over the top, and plated them with her microwaved vegetables.
People took to the comments to share their thoughts on her meal idea.
“The way you make it subtly clear there is no shame in dollar store food is amazing. Everyone deserves a good, full meal, no matter what,” said one commenter.
Many agreed with the sentiment: “This is a great option for elders who love independently but cooking is hard. I work in these situations and not all have family to cook,” said another.
People showered her with thanks and appreciation: “Just in case you haven’t heard this lately, you are appreciated! Your knowledge is invaluable! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!” said a supporter.
