American rapper Macklemore will headline the 2024 Bass in the Grass music festival in Darwin with Bag Raiders, Bliss N Eso, King Stingray and new ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Jet also set to take to the stage at Mindil Beach.

Vassy, Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir, Jungle Giants and Young Franco are also among the list of performers, with more local acts announced to play at the festival on May 18 next year.

The all-ages festival will celebrate its 21st birthday in 2024, and organisers said next year’s festival will feature more electronic music, with a new 360-degree stage, the “BASSment”, taking inspiration from underground dance music platform Boiler Room.

Long-time Aussie rock legends Jet are back for Bass in the Grass in 2024.

NT Major Events chief executive Suzana Bishop said the shift in focus to include more electronic dance music reflects feedback from festival goers.

“Electronic music is a growing in-demand style of music and we really want to make sure it’s well represented,” she said.

“We attract a variety of demographics to the festival and it’s really important for us that the line-up and the activities within the event reflect that.”

Organisers said they want to continue expanding the reach of the festival to interstate and international markets, with interstate visitors last year making up close to 40 per cent of all attendees.

Conrad Fisher from Australian-New Zealand band Coterie said it was a dream come true to be part of the line-up.

“It’s an institution, it’s iconic. We’re from WA and we have always wanted to come over to the Territory,” he said.

“We’ve wanted to play Bass for years since we were in high school so it’s pretty cool for us.”

Sunshine and Disco Faith Choir will return to Darwin for the event with their house and techno club tunes blended with a 12-piece gospel and soul choir.

Sunshine, a DJ and producer, said she fell in love with the Top End after their performance at Darwin Festival in 2023.

“It’s everyone from all walks of life, from all age groups,” she said.

“On the day you can expect high energy, uplifting music, incredible singers and big costumes.”
