A man accused of holding police at bay in his home south of Newcastle for almost two days will remain in custody.

Rory Adams did not appear in Belmont Local Court on Monday where his lawyer did not apply for bail on the 35 charges against him and it was formally refused.

Court documents allege Mr Adams had an armoury of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition during a 45-hour stand-off with police.

Police charge sheets allege Mr Adams was holed up in his Swansea home from last Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon.

Police said they went to a Swansea home on Wednesday and when they tried to talk to Mr Adams, 33, he allegedly refused to leave the house.

Attempts to negotiate continued over two days until they were able to take Mr Adams into custody.

The police charge sheets show a subsequent search of Mr Adams’s home uncovered a cache of weapons and ammunition.

The court documents allege eight firearms were found including an Adler a-110 12-gauge shotgun, a sawn-off rifle and more than 3,500 rifle cartridges.

The documents tendered allege Mr Adams was not registered to have the guns, was not licensed and also allegedly failed to store the firearms safely.

Mr Adams is also accused of having a flick knife and possessing 1.3 grams of the drug ice and 8g of cannabis.

The 33-year-old is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court on November 29.
