A new horror series from the minds behind The Haunting of Hill House has spooked Netflix fans, who have taken to social media to express their views.

Director Mike Flanagan pulls off yet another successful horror series after coming up with The Haunting of Bly Manor and Oculus.

The Fall of the House of Usher is based on Edgar Allen Poe’s 1839 short story and follows Roderick Usher, a corrupt CEO of a pharmaceutical company, played by Thirteen Days star Bruce Greenwood.

Roderick will be forced to face up to the secrets of his dark past when his children start dropping dead one by one in gruesome ways.

When asked about the series, actor Carla Gugino, who plays Verna, said: “It’s batsh*t crazy in the best possible way.

“It has quite a lot of very dark humour, but also really touches the soul.”

X (Twitter) users have issued warnings for those who haven’t watched it yet  and are easily spooked, as one penned: “Based on previous series, I’m just not gonna watch the fall of the house of Usher, and I advise you all to do the same unless you want sleepless nights!!”

Someone else added: “I’m late to the Fall of the House of Usher hype, but I promise this show is a sick and gory romp that gets right to the chase. Mind-blowing deaths, wild sex, lying, cheating, grossly sick b*****ds — all the goodies. Mike Flanagan took tricky source material and made it his own.”

A third person wrote: “Watching the Fall of the House of Usher right now, and it is just so much fun. I am on the edge of my seat at all times.”

Another person followed: “Ep.1 of The Fall of the House of Usher, and I LOVE how there are some elements from the Haunting of Hill House.”

The show debuted with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, with some of the early reviews already in, as The Verge wrote: “The mystery, which seems so obvious early on, becomes more complicated and even darker than I first imagined.”

While The Gate branded the series “deliciously gory and ghoulish”.

Film Stories added: “It’s macabre, seductive and completely addictive.”

While We Got This Covered described it as: “dripping in atmosphere, shivers, and subtext.”

The Fall of the House of Usher is currently available on Netflix.
