Once the elation of passing the test has faded, many young drivers face the difficult decision of what car to buy.

Persuasive marketing and peer pressure can sometimes tempt young drivers to make the wrong choice just to impress their mates.

But now motor expert Matthew Goodwin from High Peak Autos in Romiley Cheshire has identified a list of cars perfect for young drivers.

KIA Proceed

First off Matthew included the Kia Proceed as a decent buy for fresh faced drivers. The dealer said it was a good looking car and reliable which could be snapped up for under £3k.

Volvo C30

Another good looking car that could be bought for under £3k, Matthew said the C30 was a “safe and sturdy” car.

The veteran dealer also said that the Volvo brand would help reassure parents given the brand’s strong safety record.

Citroen DS 3

The dealer said the DS3 was a “very good car” that was cheap to tax. He recommended the 1.2 and 1.6 models.

BMW 1 series

The dealer said that a used BMW 1 series could be snapped up for less than £3k. Matthew recommended the 1.4 and 1.6 models and said the three door model looked good.

Audi A3

He recommended the Audi 1.4 and 1.6 models and said the three door A3 was a good looking car.

Fiat 500

Matthew recommended buying a 500 for around £2k and then spending the spare change on sprucing it up. He advised buyers to check for oil leaks before buying a 500.

Skoda Fabia, VW Polo and Seat Ibiza

Matthew recommended all three models and said they were all “built on the same platform.”

Ford Fiesta

The trader said the Fiesta was a good first time car and recommended the 1.25L model. He advised on avoiding the Eco boost model.

Suzuki Swift

Matthew said the Swift was a good choice too. He said the engine was “bullet proof” and added that the car had a decent stereo.

Toyota Igo

Matthew admitted that the car was “ugly” but pointed out that it was worth considering if you “were on a budget.” He said the Igo was cheap to tax, insure and run.
