Emergency services scrambled to a house in Croydon, London after reports the body of a woman in her 70s had been discovered.
Last night police said the woman was yet to be identified, as they hunted her killer.
The cops were rushed to the Ladbrook Road home not long before 11am on Wednesday, and asked anybody who saw anything in the area to get in touch.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation but I am urging anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible.
“An elderly woman has lost her life and it is vitally important that we establish what happened.
“Did you hear anything, or see someone in the area who looked out of place? Please call us.”
Officers remained in the area in the hours that followed and asked anyone with concerns is advised to speak with them.
There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
