Occasional Digest - a story for you

A woman was left fuming when she boarded her flight and found a family had taken her seats. But rather than asking them to move, she decided to do something else instead – and karma hit back

There’s nothing more awkward on a flight than arriving at your seat to find it already occupied, leaving you with the uncomfortable task of asking someone to move. A woman was left baffled when she boarded her flight and discovered another family had cheekily nabbed her seats in A, B, and C, while their assigned spots were in D, E, and F.

Opting not to kick up a fuss, she simply settled into the seats they had abandoned. But as fate would have it, “karma instantly hit” those seat-swappers as they soon faced an unexpected hiccup during the flight.

The mum shared her story on Reddit, delighting in the turn of events. She recounted that the flight was fully booked, and despite having reserved seating, she was greeted by a family occupying her spots.

She posted: “We get on to find that a family is in our seats. The parents won’t even look up at us. The teen daughter mumbles that she got there first and just sat down.

“They were in our A-B-C seats. They were supposed to be D-E-F. They were clearly not moving, and the seats were identical so we just sat in their D-E-F seats. Whatever, not worth worrying about.

“Well, until the mum who initially refused to even glance our way leaned over to ask me if our USB and outlets were working. Yes, while I had headphones on. Why yes, yes they are.’

‘Oh my, are yours not?’ ‘None of them?’ ‘Isn’t that a shame? Especially since we sat on the runway for over an hour and it was a long flight. I imagine batteries are getting low.’ Hello Karma.

“Brilliant”, one Redditor penned, while another exclaimed: “That’s fantastic!” A user remarked: “When travelling I always have two charged power packs in my personal bag.

“So not only did they nab seats, they also failed to plan ahead for their journey!”

“I’m really curious why they chose to sit in identical seats across the aisle from their assigned ones. Whomp whomp to them, sweet karma”, someone chuckled.
