As well as a gripping storyline, the film boasts a glittering cast
A hidden treasure of a thriller boasting a star-studded cast will soon be available to stream entirely for free – and it’s a must-watch for fans of Netflix’s You.
The 2019 film, Greta, features Chloe Grace Moretz as the kind-hearted yet naïve Frances McCullen, a young woman mourning her mother’s death from cancer. During a train ride, she stumbles upon an unattended handbag and sets out to return it to its rightful owner.
She eventually finds the bag’s owner, a French widow and piano teacher named Greta Hideg (Isabelle Huppert). The two form an unexpected friendship, but as red flags start to appear, Frances begins to question who Greta truly is and what her real intentions might be.
Other recognisable names in the cast include Maika Monroe as Frances’ flatmate Erica Penn and Zawe Ashton as Alexa Hammond.
With its New York backdrop and themes of stalking and violence, the film is an ideal watch for fans of the series You. The popular Netflix show is set to release its fifth and final season on April 24, wrapping up the chilling tale of killer Joe Goldberg, reports Surrey Live.
Fortunately, viewers won’t have to wait as long to watch Greta. The film will be available to stream completely free on BBC iPlayer from Sunday (April 13).
Greta has a modest audience score of 42 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, though critics seem to enjoy it more, giving it a score of 61 per cent.
An upfront viewer gave their take, saying it’s “no means cinema gold, but I think this a really fun enjoyable experience.”
They continued: “It has a nice little mystery and I think the story unravels at a good pace. I’ve watched this movie probably 3-4 times and it still gives me anxiety watching it.”
Another gave their thoughts, writing: “Greta is a mixed bag. While it delivers some genuinely creepy moments and features strong performances-particularly from Isabelle Huppert-it ultimately falls into familiar tropes that prevent it from standing out in the stalker-thriller genre.”
And a third viewer added: “Don’t really understand why people have said that this movie isn’t believable. I actually found it quite disturbing and scary (as thrillers are supposed to be) for the very fact that its progression is quite realistic. It starts off slow, then builds up to its thrill. The slow start is exactly what makes it so believable.”
