Beyond Paradise’s Humphrey Goodman and the team will tackle a poisoning case in tonight’s episode – but it looks like Esther’s mind might be elsewhere as she heads on a date

Beyond Paradise’s Humphrey Goodman will tackle a poisoning case in tonight’s episode. But could a box of chocolates be to blame? Tonight, DI Humphrey Goodman – played by Kris Marshall – and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) will investigate as three customers have been poisoned after sampling confectionary at a chocolate shop.

With no trace of poison in the remaining treats, DI Humphrey must work out how the perpetrator got the victims to eat the poisoned pieces. However, he must act fast as panic spreads throughout the town. An official synopsis reads: “A local chocolatier falls under suspicion after three customers are poisoned by her confections. The team must work quickly to uncover the culprit before public panic spreads.”

Elsewhere, Esther is caught up in a budding romantic connection. Last week’s episode opened with Esther waking up in Archie Hughes’ bed – while trying to sneak home in her clothes from the night before. Previously, Archie has been seen attempting to court Humphrey Goodman’s fiancé Martha Lloyd.

However, his eyes are firmly on Esther after the two became close after they were seen flirting after meeting at a party for his new winery.

The pair later went out for a drink, where they discussed why they were single. In an exclusive first look at the episode, as shared with The Mirror, the couple can be seen getting even closer. In the clip, Esther is seen answering the phone as she walks down the street. “What do you want?” she asks.

Viewers then see Archie (Jamie Bamber) in his kitchen making a coffee, as he responds: “Charming as always, Williams,” but Esther isn’t having any of it as she responds: “I’m working, be quick then.”

“I want to see you again,” says Archie. “Properly this time.” Once again, he’s turned down by Esther who tells him she’s busy washing her hair.

Finally, Esther gives in as Archie convinces her “it’ll be fun”. As she reluctantly agrees, he says: “Great, meet me at seven thirty at the Trelissick steps. Oh, and wear your trainers.”

A less than impressed Esther responds: “Seriously? Look if we’re doing any form of exercise, I won’t be held responsible for my actions,” before hanging up the phone with a huge grin on her face.

What will come of the meeting?

Speaking on her characters unexpected connection with Archie, Zahra told Hello!: “I think it will be a really nice surprise for the audience. I think when I read it, I was a little bit shocked, because I think Esther wouldn’t go for somebody like Archie. Esther’s used to dating within familiar circles, the people that are really local. Farmers, firemen, builders, quite low-key.”
