They now plan on opening a branch on London’s Fleet Street in June

The new branch will open on London’s Fleet Street in June.

The Texas-based chain, which first arrived in the UK in 2018, has a flagship location at Central St Giles.

The Which Wich website boasts of “custom-crafted sandwiches and salads” with “over 60 toppings to create a masterpiece”.

Dubbed “one of the best” by fans and hailed for its “superior” bread and generous fillings, the brand has become a hit.

Many have even compared it to Subway.

One review raved: “Fantastic sandwiches! Certainly much better than a Subway. Bread was fresh, portions generous and extremely tasty.”

Another simply put it: “So similar idea to Subway but better. Bread is very fresh and fillings 10/10.”

A third said: “Visited for the first time today whilst working nearby. So much better than a subway. Will be back again!”

The new Fleet Street spot – located just around the corner from Shoreditch – will be dishing up all the favourites, including their signature Philly Cheese steak, Big Italian Meatball, and the Ultimate BLT.

There’s a full build-your-own menu with over 60 toppings to pick from, plus the option to swap your bread for a spinach wrap, lettuce-wich, or salad.

The tiny mashed potato restaurant crowned best in the country

Which Wich originally had bold plans to open ten sites across London, but like many hospitality businesses, the pandemic threw a spanner in the works.

Instead, the team pivoted to launching several dark kitchen, or “ghost kitchen” operations – including ones in Bethnal Green and Battersea – to keep feeding hungry Londoners via delivery apps.

In 2023, Which Wich rolled out a sub-franchising model designed to fast-track its UK growth, with the aim of launching 100 sites nationwide within the next seven years.

The company says it is already in talks for more locations and actively scouting for new franchise partners, according to comments made to Restaurant Online.

Founded in Dallas in 2003, Which Wich now boasts 183 locations across the US and has spread its sandwich empire internationally, with sites in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman.

The UK remains a key market in its global expansion plans, according to the chain, and the upcoming Fleet Street store is expected to kickstart a fresh wave of openings across the country.

US fast food chains expand into the UK

Added to list of international fast food chains opening branches across the UK is Wingstop.

Wingstop UK said at least 10 new locations will open in the first half of the year.

Branches will be opening dine-in restaurants in SwanseaNewcastle, Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, Streatham in south London and Cardigan Fields in Leeds.

The brand will also open a further delivery kitchen in Brighton.

Major US fast food chain Chick-fil-A is opening branches across the UK this year too,

The new restaurant will open inside an Applegreen service station in Lisburn, County Antrim, on the Lisburn South motorway.

Popeyes is also eyeing up opening 45 locations in the UK this year after pulling up the shutters on 33 in 2024.

The fast-food joint, which is famous for its Louisiana-style chicken burgers and tenders, first came to the UK in 2021, opening a site in Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.
