Mazda has revealed its new EZ-60 in China which is said to be as sleek and speedy as the Tesla Model Y.

It was produced in partnership with Chinese firm Changan and used designs similar as to those of their other Tesla rival, the Changan Deepal S07.

The anticipated motor packs an 80kWh battery and a 214bhp rear-mounted motor meaning it can nip about pretty swiftly.

It can drive 295 miles before needing recharging, which only takes 35 minutes for a 30-80 per cent charge.

The Tesla Y model however takes hours to get fully charged unless it’s at a Supercharger station.

Model Y shares many components and features with the Tesla Model 3, including its platform, interior design, and powertrain options with an elevated driving position typical of SUVs.

The EZ-60 however adopts swanky LED daytime-running lights positioned high on the front, sitting above more compact main-beam headlights.

The grille’s lower edge is also framed by LED illumination and boasts a sharper, more angular aesthetic, with a striking chin spoiler.

So far, the interior has been kept under wraps but Mazda is set to reveal all at the Shanghai motor show at the end of April, collaborating with Changan.

State-owned Changan Automobile is one of China’s oldest and largest automotive manufacturers.

It’s headquartered in Chongqing, and is pinned as a key player in China’s automotive industry.

There has been no official confirmation as to whether the EZ-60 will hut UK roads but EVs are quickly becoming Mazda’s most popular classification of car.

There are hopes the EZ-60 will take over from the not-so-popular MX-30 with its sharp exterior and smart look.

This isn’t the only electric car that motorists have taken an interest in, with Mazda replacing one of its all-time favourites for an electric version.

The manufacturer confirmed its Mazda 2 petrol motor can no longer be ordered brand new, with just a “few hundred” examples left in showrooms across the UK.

But, not all hope is lost as the Japanese carmaker confirmed the 2’s successor, the Mazda 2 Hybrid, would be naturally taking its place.

Mazda did not explain why the vehicle was cancelled, but a spokesperson told Autocar: “As we move towards increased electrification of our cars, the Mazda 2 Hybrid meets consumer demand in the B-segment and is a step in our journey to ensure all our cars have some form of electrification by 2030.”

The Mazda 2 Hybrid is almost identical to the Toyota Yaris, and is a nimble and agile compact motor.

It comes with a 1.5L, three-cylinder petrol engine as well as an electric motor and battery.

Its engine produces 116bhp and can go from 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds, with a top speed of 109mph.
