Emmerdale’s Amy Walsh has confessed soap bosses withheld details about her character Tracy Robinson’s sad secret for months, and she had no idea until closer to transmission
Tracy Robinson features in devastating scenes next week on Emmerdale, as her secret is exposed to several villagers.
But it seems the characters weren’t the only ones being kept in the dark, amid fans also not knowing the truth until a flashback scene last month revealed all. Bosses actually kept the truth from Tracy actress Amy Walsh too and she only found out when it came to filming her revealing all onscreen.
Prior to this, Amy had no idea of the sad twist looming for her character despite Tracy having hidden the truth for months. Viewers found out in February that the character had been stealing cash from the till in Eric Pollard’s shop.
What started as a few notes here and there ended up being over £2,000 worth of stolen money. The truth finally comes out to Eric and Tracy’s sister Vanessa Woodfield next week, with Eric’s reaction not given away.
But it turns out it’s been going on for a while, with Tracy admitting to Leyla Harding last month she’d been stealing for months. That was the first time we learned of what was happening, and actually it was only shortly before filming that reveal that cast member Amy found out too.

It seems she wasn’t told about what Tracy was hiding until months after it was going on offscreen. She explained of when it began: “It’s been a few months before we [found] out she’s been doing it, and before I even found out she’d been doing it.”
Explaining Tracy’s desperation she said: “Everything has gone up, her husband vanished and she’s getting no money or help and he was the main breadwinner in the relationship, she’s struggling financially. She’s not getting any money from the father of her child.”
Amy also spoke of Tracy likely knowing her lies would come out at some point, and what could come next. She said: “I think realistically, she will have always known that it would have to come out.
“Maybe she always knew that Pollard would find some sympathy. He’s always been like a father to her, maybe, you know. I think the guilt goes too far and he thinks it’s his fault and his illness affecting his mind and things.
“So I think that’s when the guilt really kicks in for her and he’s so kind to her and he’s constantly saying you know he can’t be doing what he’s doing running the shop without her at the moment. I think the guilt just starts laying on thick from his perspective because you know from her perspective with him because he’s showed such kindness and then I think she just breaks.”
She continued: “I think there’s only so long that people can carry dark secrets and I think they always come out in the end and obviously it would always be Vanessa who she would turn to. She doesn’t have anyone else, like she literally doesn’t have anyone else.”
The scenes of Tracy being exposed by Vanessa and Eric air next week, but spoilers remain coy over the fallout.
