Althought the singer wowed both the audience and judges alike, viewers were left less than impressed when they discovered her past TV stint.
Britain’s Got Talent viewers have slammed Bruno Tonioli’s for awarding the Golden Buzzer to 14-year-old Maya Giotea, despite her previous talent show stint. The singer impressed both the audience and judges alike, when she performed Beyonce’s song Listen. Judge Bruno swiftly gave Maya the golden buzzer just as she was about to finish her performance.
This marks one of the quickest golden buzzer moments on the series. Some viewers were left less than impressed after they discovered that Maya had been on another talent show. Maya, who is from Romania, competed in Romanian spin-off of the show, last year.
She performed Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing where she received another golden buzzer.
BGT fans flocked to X, formerly Twitter, suggesting that it was unfair that she’d been given the golden buzzer for a second time. Judges are only allowed to award one each per series, with fans implying that it should’ve been used for another contestant.
One user wrote: “Maya Giotea who got the golden buzzer on #bgt tonight was on Romania Got Talent & got through to the live show.”
Whilst another added: “She also got the golden buzzer on Romania’s got Talent, last year…..go figure.”
A third penned: “Yet again been on Romania’s got talent and got the golden buzzer even though there is none left!!”
Some fans, however, were pleased with Maya receiving the golden buzzer again. One wrote: “I am delighted for her. I remember seeing her singing Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing on Romania’s Got Talent. Outstanding.”
Whilst another added: “Another well deserved Golden Buzzer! So happy for her!”
A third penned: “Mia Giotea is the sort of act that deserves a golden buzzer.”
During performance, Bruno went as far as to get on the stage to praise the young singer.
He said: “This was the most mature, accomplished version of this song I’ve heard from someone so young.
“The depth of tone, the control of your voice but the feeling was totally real. You killed it! I’m still blown away.”
Maya received a standing ovation, with her parents in tears as she crouched on stage and covered her face with her hands.
Judge Alesha Dixon also noted that Maya had “picked one of the hardest songs to sing in the world.”
After Alesha gave her congratulations, KSI added: “With confidence like that, you just blew me and everyone here away, honestly.”
Amanda Holden gave her judgement last, and fawned: “From the minute you walked on stage, I just knew it. Your parents must be super proud of you at this moment.
“Grab some of that golden dust and put it in your pockets because you are not going to forget this moment,” she said, later noting: “That must be the quickest Golden Buzzer in BGT history.”
