A woman was left in disbelief after spotting the seat she was meant to sit in on a Jet2 plane. When she arrived at her seat, she couldn’t believe what she saw in front of her

One mother was left gobsmacked after boarding a Jet2 aircraft and discovering the state of her assigned seat.

The mum, named Charlotte, took to TikTok to share her bizarre flight experience where her seat, 18E, appeared to be disastrously flawed— with it barely having a backrest. Photos she uploaded show a seat supported by nothing more than yellow and black duct tape wrapped around its framework.

The makeshift solution didn’t just look supremely uncomfortable but also offered virtually no privacy, with a gaping hole instead of a proper seatback separating her from fellow flyers.

Taking it in stride, Charlotte managed to smile for a photo shared on her TikTok page, wryly captioning it: “Laugh out loud, live laugh love @jet2 don’t book seat 18E.”

Her post caused quite an uproar online, with one user reacting in disbelief, exclaimed: “Surely not.” Another added: “This has to be a joke.” While a third bemoaned: “I would lose the will to live I wouldn’t cope in that.”

Another chimed in: “Your poor back, omg,” while someone else said: “No backrest the whole flight, that is absurd.”

While safety standards were called into question by some, there were those who suggested Charlotte make the best of the situation, summed up by one individual’s unsympathetic advice: “Listen you’re on the plane, you’re going on holiday, you’re sat down.”

Jet2 has been contacted for comment.

The video comes after Jet2 recently unveiled new flights to nine destinations from Birmingham airport.

The announcement means that there will be additional seats for winter 2025/2026 from Birmingham Airport. This includes new flights to the Canary Islands, Cyprus, Turkey, Alicante, Porto and Madeira.
