The 1% Club ended in heartbreak for one player who walked away from a chance to win the £99,000 jackpot – before getting the final question right

The 1% Club ended in disappointment for one contestant who missed out on a £99,000 jackpot – only to answer the final question correctly.

The popular ITV quiz show challenges 100 players each week with a series of logic-based questions that progressively increase in difficulty.

The game begins with a question that 90% of people surveyed could answer correctly, and gradually works its way down to the final question that only 1% got right.

In Saturday’s episode, just two contestants made it to the final round. They had the option to attempt the 1% question for a shot at the £99,000 jackpot or walk away with a split of £10,000, receiving £5,000 each. Both decided to take their share of the £10,000, forfeiting the jackpot, reports Birmingham Live.

However, host Lee Mack shared details of the final question to see if the players would have got it right.

The final question, which the contestants have just 30 seconds to answer, was: “Yolande takes one tablet on every day of the week that has three vowels in total in it. She starts this pack on 2nd March. What date will she need to start a new pack?”

Mack disclosed that the correct answer was Tuesday, March 26.

He then revealed that one of the contestants had actually answered the question correctly when they took a guess at it. This meant they could have walked away with the £99,000 jackpot instead of £5,000 if they had chosen to continue playing.

Lee offered reassurance, saying: “I still think you’ve done the right thing considering how difficult these questions can be.”

The 1% Club is on ITV1 on Saturdays and on ITVX
