British Airways is poised to relaunch flights to a major capital city.

From April, the UK’s flag carrier will run flights from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. This ends a four-year hiatus that began during the coronavirus pandemic. BA had planned to start the route back up at the beginning of last year, but the date was pushed back – reportedly because of aircraft issues. The relaunch date has been confirmed by BA as being April 1.

However, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin, senior general manager of strategy at Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, said: “We had a good discussion with the British Airways team. They are also very excited about this relaunch”.

Previously, BA announced: “Kuala Lumpur’s head-turning skyline offers the best of both old and new, with skyscrapers, minarets and Mughal-style domes making up the architecture of the city. Begin your journey at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Then take a tour of Little India and Chinatown, neighbourhoods filled with busy markets and delicious street food.”

It is not clear how much plane tickets will cost or how regularly the service will run. BA has been contacted for comment.

The airline is not the only one to be adding new flights to its schedule. This Ryanair announced that it will launch three new flight routes from Bournemouth Airport this summer.

The budget airline will connect sun-seekers from Bournemouth to Chania, Fuerteventura, and Rhodes, bringing the total number of destinations offered to 21. Travellers can also look forward to additional flights across 14 well-loved routes, such as Faro, Lanzarote, and Palma de Mallorca, thanks to two brand-new aircraft making their home at Bournemouth.

Jade Kirwan, Ryanair’s head of communications, said: “Ryanair is pleased to announce our summer 2025 schedule for Bournemouth, with 21 routes including three new routes to Chania, Fuerteventura and Rhodes, as well as extra frequencies on 14 other popular routes to key holiday destinations like Faro, Lanzarote and Palma de Mallorca, giving our UK customers even more choice at the lowest fares this summer.”
