Pop legend Chesney Hawkes only had one huge hit in 1991 – but he’s reportedly set for a career comeback, including a new album and stint on Celebrity Big Brother
ITV promo for new series of Celebrity Big Brother
An iconic pop star from the Nineties has reportedly signed up for the new series of Celebrity Big Brother. Chesney Hawkes – famous for his huge singalong hit The One and Only – is set to enter the house when the ITV reality series kicks off next month.
The 53-year-old shot to Number one in the UK singles chart when his debut single was released back in 1991, where it spent five weeks in the top spot. Though people of all ages known the instantly recognisable track, which is often sung on karaoke, Chesney became a bit of a one hit wonder despite releasing more music.
But the pop icon is reportedly set for a career comeback, including releasing a new album later this year, and is hoping appearing on a huge show like Celebrity Big Brother will help him do that.
Other stars rumoured to be heading into the Big Brother house when the latest series, hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, starts on Monday April 7, range from soap stars to WAGS and Love Island legends – and even Olympic gold medalists.

A source said told The Sun: “Chesney Hawkes is one of those rare British celebrities who crosses generational divides. Everyone knows The One and Only even if the youngsters might not recognise his name. He’s also had decades in showbiz, so CBB bosses hope he’ll be loose-lipped about celebrity encounters over the years, just like Louis Walsh last year. It’s perfect timing for Chesney too as he’s releasing a comeback album in April.”
So who will be joining Chesney as part of this year’s celeb line-up? The official announcement is yet to be made, but here’s what has been rumoured so far.
Tommy Fury is said to have been eyed up by producers towards the end of last year as “big money offers” were circulating – especially with the news he and Molly-Mae Hague are now back together.
It’s been teased that Rebekah Vardy, who’s married to footballer Jamie Vardy, could be taking part in the new series. It comes after rival Coleen Rooney – who won the ‘Wagatha Christie’ libel case brought against her by Rebekah in 2022 – came runner-up on I’m A Celebrity last year.
TOWIE star Ella Rae Wise is also set to be enter the house – and bosses are hoping she’ll spill the dirt on her on-off romance with Dan Edgar. She has also previously dated co-star Pete Wicks.
Other big names that have been mentioned are Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd – best known for his role as Gail Platt’s son David Platt series. It comes after his fellow Corrie star Colson Smith, who plays PC Craig Tinker, entertained fans in the Big Brother house last year.
Love Island star Chris Hughes, Married At First Sight star Ella Morgan, double Olympic gold medal winner Daley Thompson and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard are also said to have signed up to the show.
