The UK’s most affordable city for families to visit has been revealed and it is home to a wealth of history, including England’s oldest inn, an historical lace market and the Galleries of Justice Museum

The UK’s most affordable city for families to visit has been revealed.

In the top spot, Nottingham was found by Vendula London to be the most affordable city for families to visit in the UK. An analysis of the average price of a one-night stay in a budget hotel for two adults and two children, the average entry cost to local attractions for two adults and two children, the cost of parking for 24 hours, and the total cost for Nottingham was £109.

Nottingham has the cheapest price for a one night hotel stay at £71, and the cheapest average attraction entry cost to attractions, at £20.75.

Nottingham is known for its role in the Robin Hood legend and for being home to Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery, rebuilt many times since the medieval era. The city also has a Lace Market area, which was once the centre of the world’s lace industry, and the Galleries of Justice Museum, which presents crime-related exhibits.

The city is also home to the oldest inn in England. Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem, which is built into a cliffside and features several cosy rooms and nooks, carved from the rock on which Nottingham Castle stands. It is part museum, part traditional pub, and is a great place to grab a pint.

Nottingham Castle is great for families. Admission costs £15 per adult, but you can visit all year. The castle has a playground, storytelling screens, and interactive gaming tables to bring it back to life. For families not into history, there is Nottingham Playhouse, one of the UK’s leading producing theatres and famous for its bold and imaginative productions.

For sports fans, head to the banks of the River Trent to the home of Nottingham Forest FC. Here families can enjoy a guided tour with an expert and have the opportunity to sit in the same seat that Nuno Espírito Santo occupies during his Premier League press conferences.

Nottingham is also full of great places to stay, including hotels to apartments. One place is Heritage Mews, which is tucked away in a secluded but central location. The Mews is a converted school house, perfect for families.

The city is generally considered quite walkable, with the centre compact and relatively easy to navigate on foot. Many of the main attractions within walking distance. Nottingham also has an extensive public transport network including buses and trams, which can be used for longer distances or late at night.
