Doctor Odyssey viewers have been left thrilled after the show’s new crossover episode with hit drama, 9-1-1.

Fans of Doctor Odyssey have been left rejoicing after the show’s new crossover episode, which they affectionately referred to as ‘silly.’

The Ryan Murphy medical drama has been keeping fans on their toes with new episodes every week since its return on March 6.

So far, viewers have followed the Odyssey ship’s crew, Dr Max (Joshua Jackson), nurse Avery Morgan (Phillipa Soo) and nurse Tristan Silva (Sean Teale), as they have tackled unique medical emergencies.

Episodes nine and ten revolved around a brutal encounter, which left the team treating shark-inflicted wounds, reports the Mirror US.

Following these instalments, viewers expressed concern that the series, which has been praised for its light-hearted storylines, was becoming too dramatic.

Some fans even asked for a ‘break’ from the high-stakes plotlines.

However, this week’s episode, which featured Oscar-nominee Angela Bassett, appears to have satisfied viewers’ wishes.

Titled ‘Casino Week’, the new episode introduces guest star Bassett as Athena Grant, her beloved character from Ryan Murphy’s hit drama, 9-1-1.

The synopsis teases, “During Casino Week on The Odyssey, Athena Grant spots two suspicious passengers eyeing the vault. She teams up with Max to counter their plans in a high-stakes gamble.”

As viewers tuned into the instalment, which aired on Thursday (March 20), they have praised the show’s ‘fun’ change of pace.

Fans on Reddit and X, the new Twitter, have been buzzing with excitement over the latest episode of a beloved show.

One viewer gushed on Reddit: “Well, you guys, my wish from last week that the show go back to its light-hearted roots somewhat came to fruition! […] This [episode] was indeed silly fun! Progress!”

Another chimed in: “Yeah thank God all that shark stuff is over. Slightly gross and terribly boring. Was so happy for casino week.”

Over on X, a fan tweeted their relief: “Another good episode. Glad we’re done with sharks, etc. #DoctorOdyssey.”

The episode’s guest stars, Jackson and Don Johnson, also received praise, with viewers excited to see them alongside series regular Bassett. The actress herself shared her enthusiasm about working with the TV legends in an interview with People Magazine, saying, “It was just a love fest.”

She went on to explain how she sometimes needed to take a moment away from her charismatic co-stars to refocus on her role: “[There were] certain times I had to, with the guys especially, I would have to walk away, center myself because they have so much wonderful energy and so much to say.”

Bassett concluded with high praise for her colleagues: “They are just such a delight.”
