Peter Andre has criticised the upcoming Snow White remake for rebranding the original seven dwarfs as CGI ‘magical creatures’, slamming Disney for “putting actors out of work”. The new Disney film stars Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot and Andrew Burnap as the story returns to our screens almost 90 years after the original animation was released.

However, singer and TV personality Peter has hit out at the upcoming film, writing in his latest New! magazine column about the controversies surrounding the film. “Disney has been involved in a bit of controversy over its new version of Snow White for things like using CGI for the ‘magical creatures’ instead of the original seven dwarves,” he said.

“It’s important to remember that the original stories and films were very much of their time and, yes, there are definitely things that don’t sit comfortably with today’s audiences. I think it’s important to leave classic films as they were. New films can be as diverse as ever, but recreating classics and putting actors out of work for CGI is not the solution.”

The Snow White remake has faced criticism ahead of its cinema release over the decision to use computer generated images in the role of the dwarves, while critics have been divided over the film. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw said of the dwarves: “This fudged, pseudo-progressive approach is so tiring you’ll want to put your head in your hands.”

While Fandomwire fumed: “Visually distracting and out of place in the movie’s overall aesthetic… The artificiality takes away some of the magic and immersion.”

Last week, it was reported that Disney had made huge changes to the studio’s Snow White premiere, with coverage being limited to screened photographers and an in-house team. Meanwhile, the cast will not be answering any questions at the pre-party screening.

It came after Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage hit out at the film in 2022 and its move to rebrand the seven dwarves, saying: “Literally no offence to anyone, but I was a little taken aback [when] they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’

“You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that f***ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. What the f**k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”
