The stars of Line of Duty have got tongues wagging a series seven is on the way after they reunited in the pub for some St Patrick’s Day drinks
Line of Duty stars have sparked rumours a new series is in the works after they reunited for a drink in the pub on St Patrick’s Day. In a joint Instagram post Vicky McClure, who played DI Kate Fleming in the popular BBC police drama, and Martin Compston, who portrayed her sidekick DI Steve Arnott, posted a snap with co-star Adrian Dunbar, aka Superintendent Ted Hastings.
Martin captioned the post: “St Paddy’s day with one of Erin’s finest the gaffer. Vicky’s here as well.” And the pic of the trio sent fans into a frenzy as many asked if it meant a Line of Duty series seven was on the way.
One fan questioned: “Are you guys hiding a script by any chance?!!” Another urged: “Season 7 please!” A third asked: “The best trio there has ever been. Now where’s Jed with those scripts. Have you got him hiding somewhere?”
A fourth joked: “The gaffer is back. Now we’re cooking with gas.” A fifth chimed in: “Yay. The gang back together!” as a sixth commented: “Aww man, I get so excited when I see the three of you together. Time for a rewatch.”

Ever since series six of the bent coppers saga about anti-corruption unit AC-12 ended in 2021, fans have been eager for a follow-up. The end of the last season saw organised crime kingpin H’s identity revealed as Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells – and not Hastings, as some fans thought it might turn out to be.
And with some cast members speaking out on a potential season seven, it looks like it could be happening. Earlier this month, Christina Chong – who starred as Steve’s love interest DI Nicky Rogerson- revealed the cast have been asked about their availability for later in the year.
She said: “So I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven.” Her confession follows co-star Adrian’s revelation last year. He said writer Jed Mercurio was working on a new script, saying: “He is writing… we haven’t got a script on the desk yet.”
While Martin, who plays Steve, has also hinted he is keen for the show to return – but would be “gutted” if any of the main characters were killed off. As their latest social media pics are clear to see, he revealed the cast are still very close off camera and revealed he recently met with the show’s writer Jed.
He shared: “One of the great benefits of that show is that it’s given us great careers outside of it. I just started my new show yesterday [the thriller Red Eye], so I’m filming in London and Vicky’s working on Trigger Point.
“So we’re all working and there’s nothing coming soon. It will be a sad day when people stop asking about Line Of Duty. I appreciate that people want it back.”
When questioned about Dunbar’s Ted Hastings’ character’s age, The Sun reported Martin said he had been set for retirement since series three. He laughed: “Believe me, there’s life in the old dog yet. He’s one of my great friends and he’s one of the most energetic people I know.”
