The thriller stars Florence Pugh as a woman who uncovers a dark secret about her seemingly perfect town

Harry Styles fans face a race against time as his 2022 thriller flick Don’t Worry Darling is due to exit Prime Video in just a few days.

Directed by Olivia Wilde, Don’t Worry Darling will drop off the streaming site come Monday, March 31. Styles, the Grammy-winning crooner, and Florence Pugh, an Oscar nominee, take the lead as Jack and Alice, a 1950s American couple.

The narrative unfolds in Victory, a picture-perfect desert community that hides a grim secret behind its cookie-cutter image. Men depart daily for obscure jobs at a secret establishment, while the women seem content with housewife duties.

But when Alice starts noticing odd behaviours from a fellow housewife, she peels back layers of deception to uncover her husband’s ominous occupation.

Before hitting screens, the movie baited audiences with its eerie premise and stellar line-up but fell flat among critics upon release, reports Surrey Live.

The film was panned by reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes, meriting a score of just 38 percent, with critics summarising: “Despite an intriguing array of talent on either side of the camera, Don’t Worry Darling is a mostly muddled rehash of overly familiar themes.”

Viewers also picked up on echoes of The Stepford Wives, noting Don’t Worry Darling revisits a familiar feminist narrative akin to the cult favourite, in which a woman stumbles upon a sinister conspiracy concocted by a group of husbands.

Despite the lukewarm reception from critics, audiences rallied behind the thriller with a solid 74 percent approval rating, many tipping their hats to the dynamic performances.

One moviegoer enthused: “Pugh and Styles rose above the noise in their own ways, great on screen chemistry, should have been given the acknowledgment they deserved. Very entertaining with a message that stays long after you leave the theatre. If you haven’t seen it yet, do so.”

Another fan leapt to the film’s defence commenting: “I’m sorry, these critics are obviously either biased or completely insane! This was a wonderful movie, BEAUTIFULLY shot, great story and soundtrack, and both Florence and Harry are incredible! I am completely shocked by the critics’ reviews!”

On IMDB, praise continued as another admirer declared: “This is such a weird and cool movie. It’s creepy and haunting but not in a horror kind of way. The story is fully intriguing.”

Adding star power to the ensemble, the cast features the likes of Chris Pine (Star Trek), Gemma Chan (Humans), Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), and the director herself Wilde.
