Occasional Digest - a story for you

Well known as Bali Hinduism’s new year, the celebration of Nyepi is unique. Unlike other New Year’s celebrations known for grand festivities, actively observe this one in silence, typically each March. Heading up to the Nyepi day, the Balinese people will hold the biggest purification ritual named Melasti Ceremony

Nyepi comes from the word ‘sepi’ which means silent. The purpose of the Nyepi celebration is self-purification and universe-purification. That’s why during Nyepi day in Bali, people are staying at home, do self-reflection, pray, contemplate, and fast. All individuals in Bali must adhere to specific rules as well.

The day is really quiet, and you will literally hear the sound of wind and animal-like dogs, birds, roosters, etc; and in the Night, you can even see stars very brightly give the lack of pollution on this day
