Greaves ‘heading for Prem’
Beau Greaves was tipped to become a Premier League Darts player within “five years” as she rattled Luke Humphries in their FA Cup showdown, writes ROB MAUL.
Doncaster’s three-time women’s world champion came within three legs of producing the greatest TV performance by a woman in darts.
Greaves, 21, opened up with 126 and 124 checkouts and led 7-5 but then the world No.1 won five legs in a row to make round five of the FA Cup of Darts.
After the 10-7 result, the pair hugged at the end and sportingly Humphries held up her hand aloft for the crowd and clapped her off the stage at Butlin’s Minehead resort.
Humphries, 30, said: “Beau belongs in big time darts. She’s a massive advocate for the ladies game, which has grown massively because of her.
“She belongs in this environment. She really tested me there. If this was a Premier League game, she’d have beaten me.
“She needs to give herself time. Maybe five years, I think she’ll be in the Premier League.
“I think she’s probably a top-64 player in the world right now. The next five years she’ll find that she has got the level that can match me, Luke (Littler) and Michael (van Gerwen). She has got a massive future ahead of her.
“She’s still very young and if you can test me, I didn’t play too badly there, that proves she has got big-time darts. Over the next few years I’m sure I’ll be sharing the stage with her more.”
