Feb. 21 (UPI) — Three people died Friday afternoon in a shooting in the parking lot of a state-run driver’s license branch in Louisville, Ky., police said.

Louisville Metro Police said it happened at about noon in a shopping plaza that includes a Kroger Marketplace just north of Interstate 265 in southwest Louisville.

One man was pronounced deceased at the scene, and two women died after being taken to University of Louisville Hospital downtown, Maj. Donald Boeckman said.

“It’s absolutely a tragedy and I’m surprised that there wasn’t more people injured because many people were standing outside,” Boeckman added, according to WHAS11 TV.

Boeckman said at least one suspect fled the scene. They are reviewing surveillance video for more information.

No arrests have been made and LMPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating.

Officials said that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which runs the driver’s license facilities, issued the following statement:

“We are thankful that all our employees are safe and our hearts go out to the victims of the incident. We remain focused on our customers’ and employees’ safety. We did have security at the office when the incident occurred outside the building, and locked down the building immediately. Employees are leaving and the office will be closed the remainder of the day.”
