LIVERPOOL welcome Wolves to Anfield for a huge Premier League clash this afternoon.
The Reds go into the game fresh from a dramatic Merseyside derby that saw tensions heat up for both sides at the end, including those on the bench.
The topsy-turvy 2-2 draw saw the table-toppers drop points from a winning position for only the third time this season.
James Tarkowski’s blockbuster finish to the game in the 98th minute of the five minutes additional minutes was met with incredible scenes at the final whistle.
A full-scale melee between the teams extended to those on the bench and saw four red cards being issued by referee Michael Oliver.
Why is Arne Slot not serving a touchline ban vs Wolves?
After a confrontation with officials post-match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot was one of the four shown a red card.
Slot engaged in an extended handshake with the referee – reminiscent of Pep Guardiola against Liverpool in 2019 – before being disciplined.
The Reds manager was also seen berating an assistant referee moments prior.
The Premier League’s website initially revealed that Slot was due to serve a two-match ban and was dismissed for using “offensive, insulting, or abusive language” – but that was later removed on Thursday and was confirmed to be an error.
Unlike players, managers and staff don’t serve an automatic suspension after receiving a red card, which is why Slot is on the touchline for today’s clash with Wolves.
The Football Association (FA) is currently examining the referee’s report before making a decision.
This might lead to a charge, warning, reminder of obligations, or no action at all, depending on how severe the event was.
Slot could face a standard charge or a non-standard charge, which would then result in a disciplinary hearing – it would take up to two or three weeks to conclude a hearing.
