Peter Kay heckler who got kicked out of gig by comic after shouting ‘garlic bread’ demands a refund on £155 tickets

Occasional Digest - a story for you

A HECKLER who was kicked out of a Peter Kay gig for shouting the comic’s “garlic bread” catchphrase is demanding a refund.

Warehouse worker Philip Peters, 54, and his son, 26, were forcibly removed by security from the sold out Manchester show at the weekend.

Mr Peters, who was gifted his £155 ticket for Christmas from his 17-year-old daughter, complained they were treated “like terrorists” as security guards dragged them out of the venue.

He told the Mail: “It was me who shouted out ‘garlic bread’. I was there with my son and they dragged us out like ragged dolls and I am now covered in bruises. A lot of people just stood up and walked out when they saw how we were dragged out.

“If we had done anything wrong the police would have arrested us, I just can’t understand it, all I said was garlic bread. That’s my favourite joke of his.

“I have loved Peter Kay forever. I watched him on Car Share, I watch him on TikTok all the time and I’ve always wanted to see him live. I’ve loved watching him.”

Stand-up Kay, 51, previously said he’s “too embarrassed” to buy garlic bread at the supermarket – after the snack became the punchline to one of his best-loved jokes.

Some gig-goers have called the Bolton-born star’s ejection of the heckling pair “nasty and bitter.”

The father and son duo weren’t the only ones to fall foul of the comic’s no-nonsense approach to crowd shout outs.

As one female audience member took advantage of the pause in proceedings to shout “we love you Peter Kay,” the Phoenix Nights star made sure she was evicted too.

He couldn’t resist a distasteful dig as she made her way through the aisles, with audience members claiming he said: “Have a drink, have we?

“Go on, off you go Lisa Riley.”

He was referring to the Emmerdale actress, who plays Mandy Dingle, and has spoken openly about her battle with booze.

She is now nine years sober after admitting to drinking two bottles of wine a night – with the screen star previously confessing she “drowned her feelings in alcohol” following her mum’s death.

The debacle caused one fan to state: “Was embarrassing, the guy only shouted garlic bread and the woman just shouted we love you Peter. Waited 20 years to see him and was disappointed.”

Another took to social media to write: “I’ve lost a lot of respect for Peter Kay after the way he treated the heckler at the end of his Manchester Feb 8 show.”

“Having him removed by force by his entourage and cracking jokes about it over the three or four minutes it took.

“No manners. Huge waste of money.”

Peter’s show also left a sour taste in the mouths of some after they claimed he did an impression of a blind man.

He also is alleged to have made jokes about not having an erection due to taking the drug Sertraline.

The dialogue prompted another fan to post on social media: “We were in the same section, super uncomfortable and a really bad look for Kay, felt like I was seeing the mask slip a little bit. sad to see it but he’s definitely washed up.”

Another agreed: “Yes it ruined it for us as well, we felt really uncomfortable Peter Kay pushed it then threw him out, won’t be watching him again…. Ruined it…”

The Sun has contacted Peter’s reps for comment.
