SIR Keir Starmer has been accused of national sabotage with his plans to surrender the Chagos Islands.

Concessions offered to Mauritius include doubling the initial £9billion cash handout for the 99-year lease of the Diego Garcia US military base.

The country’s PM Navin Ramgoolam also said that he would have a right to veto any move by the UK to extend it by a further 40 years.

Shadow Cabinet Minister Robert Jenrick said last night: “This is traitorous levels of national sabotage from Starmer.”

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch added: “Starmer’s foolish deal gets worse every minute.

“He is surrendering British territory and paying for the privilege.”

Mr Ramgoolam has suggested that annual payments will be frontloaded and rise with inflation, potentially doubling the £90million-a-year bill.

He said: “We have to be inflation-proof.

“What’s the point of getting money and then having half of it by the end.

“This is what would happen, we have made the calculations.”

Downing Street said the UK would “only agree a deal that is in our national interests and protects our national security”.
