Swansea City have completed the loan signing of midfielder Lewis O’Brien from Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

The 26-year-old – who made 12 appearances for Los Angeles during the latter stages of the 2024 Major League Soccer season – completed his medical with the Championship club on transfer deadline day.

It serves as a real boost to the Swans who sold influential club captain Matt Grimes to Championship rivals Coventry City last week while Azeem Abdulai joined Leyton Orient on a permanent deal.

“We are excited to welcome Lewis to Swansea City,” said Swans boss Luke Williams.

“His versatility and experience will undoubtedly strengthen our midfield, and his skill set will be invaluable to us for the rest of the season. He will make a big impact on the pitch.”

Swansea remain eager to further bolster their squad prior to Monday’s 23:00 GMT transfer deadline – with Man City’s Jacob Wright and Red Bull Salzburg’s Bobby Clark among their targets.

They had been hopeful of striking a deal with reigning Premier League champions Man City to sign Wright, 19, on loan, with a view to making the move permanent in the summer if Swansea remained in the Championship.

However, the deal stalled in the final days of the winter window, and it appears unlikely that the England Under-20 international will link up with the Welsh side.

Former Liverpool midfielder Clark, 19, is firmly admired by the Swans, although he has attracted interest from several other clubs.

Swansea also hold an interest in Leyton Orient midfielder Ethan Galbraith.

The Northern Irishman, 23, joined the League One side from Manchester United in the summer of 2023 but will see his contract expire at the end of the current season.
