Jan. 26 (UPI) — House Speaker Mike Johnson has invited Donald Trump to address a joint session of Congress for the first time since he was inaugurated for the second time.
“It is my distinct honor and great privilege to invite President Donald Trump to address a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, to share his America First vision for our future,” Johnson. R-La., wrote on X.
In a letter to the president, Johnson wrote:
“America’s Golden Age has begun. Thanks to your strong leadership and bold action in the first days of your presidency, the United States is already experiencing a resurgence of patriotism, unity, and hope for the future.”
“Your administration and the 119th Congress working together have the chance to make these next four years some of the most consequential in our nation’s history.”
Typically, presidents typically address a joint session of Congress in the first year as president.
Then, they deliver the State of the Union to lawmakers in later years, usually in February.
Trump, the first time as president, has addressed joint sessions of Congress four other times, according to Senate records. Three were for the annual State of the Union address.
He met with Johnson and Senate majority leader John Thune, R-S.D., during Trump’s first week in office.
On Monday, he was inaugurated in the Capitol Rotunda.
