PREGANCY is supposed to be a really special time for expecting mothers, but it’s not always so pretty.
Despite images of glowing pregnant people with perfect bumps, the reality of it is a bit more gnarly.
That’s what one mum, called Gina, found out when she was pregnant with her little one.
When she first found out she was expecting, like most people, Gina was probably looking forward to that pregnancy glow, but things went a little differently for the mum-to-be.
Posting on TikTok the mum shared snaps of what she looked like before falling pregnant.
With flawless skin, curly locks and a little button nose, Gina smiled for the camera, no idea what would be heading her way.
The second picture then showed her 30 weeks pregnant, and looking a totally exhausted.
But most shocking was the fact her nose had visibly doubled in size, leaving some people stunned.
“Pregnancy nose is no joke,” Gina captioned the viral video.
It turned out lots of other mums found themselves in the same position as Gina, and many assured her not to panic because her nose would likely return to normal after giving birth.
“I honestly didn’t know it was a thing, I thought I was the only one,” wrote one mum.
She added: “I only experienced it carrying my daughter and was fine with my two boys.”
“omg pregnancy nose is such a thing honestly mine looked crazy by the time I got to my due date,” another said.
“Same, I’m 20 weeks and I look like Shrek,” someone else said, and Gina agreed: “Literally how I feel! It got bigger over night, twice. Pray for us it goes away.”
“No one believes the nose I have now is not the nose I had before having my daughter,” one person commented.
To which Gina replied: “So what you’re saying is, I should start saving for a nose job?”
WHAT IS PREGNANCY NOSE?
According to Dr. Christine Greves, an OB-GYN in Orlando, Florida, many pregnant people do actually experience ‘pregnancy nose’.
Speaking to TODAY.com she explained: “The underlying reason is because of the hormones that are increased in pregnancy and those hormones cause dilation in vessels, which can result in more blood flow going to certain areas — and that’s because we need it for the uterus.”
And don’t worry, although it might be weird to see yourself with a bigger nose, it’s totally harmless for most people and will usually go back to normal roughly six weeks after giving birth, she added.
