Occasional Digest - a story for you

A MAN has revealed that in a bid to get some extra privacy, his neighbour put up a huge block wall next to his existing fence.

And not only is it an eyesore, but people are saying that it makes it look like he lives in a prison.

A young man angrily argues with his neighbor at his doorway.

Whilst thought thought the man should consider himself lucky, others compared the wall to something you’d see at a prisonCredit: Reddit

Despite this, others described it as an ‘upgrade’ from the man’s chain fence and encouraged him to ‘consider himself lucky’.

It comes after the anonymous man took to social media, sharing a snap of his neighbour’s new wall.

Posting on Reddit, on the r/landscaping thread, the man, who is from New Mexico, US, posted a picture of the six foot wall, leaving many open-mouthed.

Alongside his post, he simply penned: ‘Neighbour put up [a] block wall’.

Next to his chain fence, which simply separates the two gardens rather than providing privacy, the man’s neighbour had built a huge block wall, which many have slammed as ‘ugly’.

But whilst it might not look the most attractive, many praised its ability to provide privacy for both neighbours.

One person said: “I’m all for people putting up privacy fences, but Jesus, this is so ugly.”

Another added: “It’s a compound.”

A third commented: “Expensive, labour intensive to build, ugly, and easy to climb.”

Whilst someone else chimed in: “Welcome to prison, #2.”

However, at the same time, not everyone was as negative about the wall and many ‘wished’ their neighbours would do the same.

One user wrote: “Privacy and you didn’t have to pay for it? Sign me up”.

The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble

One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour’s argue

  1. Broken fences – top of the board was broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix it
  2. Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
  3. Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
  4. Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
  5. Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others

A second penned: “I actually wish my neighbour would do something like this.”

Another beamed: “Consider yourself lucky! Now you can tear out that chain link!”

As well as this, one user claimed: “Block walls are great! Privacy for both of you. Low to no maintenance. No dogs barking at each other or digging out.

“I would say this is an asset to your house with no investment.”

To this, the original Reddit poster replied: “Same. I know some people here think it’s ugly but I think it’s great and these are pretty standard here.

“He’s building a house on his lot and I actually appreciate the privacy.”
