PRIMARK has launched “January” sales in some of its stores, offering shoppers up to 50% off.

The budget retailer prides itself on selling fashionware at affordable prices all-year round.

It also says it does not run traditional seasonal Black Friday, Boxing Day or January sales.

However, Primark has confirmed to The Sun it does offer “seasonal markdowns throughout the year” – which in essence replicate January sales.

And The Sun has seen pictures of one Primark branch in Stratford, London, offering shoppers reductions of up to 50% on accessories and winter clothing.

Some shoppers posting on Facebook are reporting branches in their local areas have slashed prices on products too, including on clothing.

Andrew Busby, retail expert, said: “Primark traditionally shuns things such as Black Friday, saying that it offers low prices all year round and doesn’t need to discount.

“However, for a number of years it has offered some items at markdown prices.

“This tends to be discontinued or end of line stock and is common practice, especially in fashion retail.”

Lisa Talbot, retail expert, said bargain chains dropping prices around this time of year was becoming more commonplace.

“Even value-driven brands are using sales to maintain foot traffic and interest in the quieter early months of the year,” she added.

This is not the first time that Primark has offered markdowns on selected items.

Eager shoppers form massive line for Selfridges Boxing Day Sales

The Sun previously discovered how it uses red labels on “secret” sale items in some of its stores.

And back in 2021, we found jumpers with a 58% markdown – from £12 to £5.

Items with red sticker markdowns are usually end-of-season or stock that is to be discontinued.

If shoppers want to find the hidden bargains then they should ask a member of Primark’s customer service staff to point them out.

Some stores may even have a rail of sale items – but it does vary between stores.

Of course, only a tiny proportion of Primark’s stock is discounted and there’s no guarantee that your local store will have reductions.

CHANGES AT PRIMARK

Primark continues to roll out click and collect at stores across the UK, having launched it in 81 stores as of October.

The retailer plans to add desks to 30 more stores in the coming months, although exact dates they will open have not been revealed.

Once they have launched, 111 Primark stores across the UK will offer a click and collect service.

The bargain chain already runs click and collect at branches in London, Oldham and Sheffield.

The roll out comes after Primark made other changes to the format of its stores.

The fashion giant introduced self-scanning tills to 20 of its stores across the UK in 2022.
