And on Good Morning Britain’s Christmas Day episode tomorrow she will share an update on how she is coping.

Mum-of-two Kate, 57, tells co-host Susanna Reid: “It’s very raw.

“This time last year, Derek was still alive — very sick.

“We thought it was the toughest Christmas because, weirdly, in 2020 we had a lot of hope he was coming out of hospital.

“I think I am in the early stages of grief.

“The pain is still there.”

Kate, who looked after Derek after he spent a year in hospital, will also shine a light on Britain’s carers on the programme, starting on ITV at 7am.

The presenter and daughter Darcy, 18, attended Piers Morgan’s star-studded Christmas party in London last week.
