Britain’s Jasmin Taylor won gold at the Telemark Sprint World Cup in Pinzolo, Italy on Friday – the opening sprint race of the World Cup season.

Taylor led from the first run and finished ahead of French pair Augustine Carliez in second and Camille Bourbon in third.

Last season, Taylor, 31, achieved 11 World Cup podiums, finishing top of the sprint and overall rankings to secure two crystal globe awards.

Telemark includes alpine skiing, cross-country and ski-jumping elements.

At the Para-alpine Giant Slalom World Cup in Courchevel, France, Britons Neil Simpson and Rob Poth won gold in the men’s visually impaired classification.

Simpson and Poth beat Johannes Aigner of Austria and Giacomo Bertagnolli of Italy to deliver the first British Para-alpine podium of the campaign.

Taylor, who is Britain’s most successful skier, is back in action on Saturday for the second race of the Pinzolo double header.
