A RARE retro Ford car is set to hit an auction floor for a whopping £8.5 million due to it’s special history.
The Ford GT40 Mk II has garnered such a high price due to it’s racing past and exclusivity.

This retro brown and lime green racer was one of only eight ever sold.
The decades old vehicle is in an excellent condition, despite it’s age and proven competition succsesses.
This GT40 Mk II came second in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans competition in 1966 and the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring.
The special Ford has also travelled the world as a marvel for spectators to see at exhibitions.
It appeared at European motor shows in 1966 and 1967 and was then donated to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in March 1968.
This Ford received restoration work in 2011 to bring it back to it’s 1966 glory.
The car was tweaked to reinstall it’s configuration from the 24 Hours of Le Mans race it nearly won.
Anybody looking to snap up the historic model can do this at RM Sotheby’s Miami 2025 auction.
The listing revealed an even more complex history to the special car.
This vehicle was shipped to the high performance car company Shelby American in 1965.
The company then upgraded the Ford GT40 to meet the Mk II standards, before shipping it to Florida.
Drivers Walt Hansgen and Mark Donohue, two successful pilots in their day, piloted this racer at the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring.
This special Ford managed to take this driving duo to third place that day, even while up against against others sports cars like Ferraris and Porsches.
FORMER GLORY
This retro Ford has not been the only one of it’s kind to hit an auction house recently.
A first-edition 1973 Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000 is set to go under the hammer after a huge £130,000 restoration, The Sun has previously reported.
This four-year-long process brought back the iconic car to it’s former glory.
It included changes to the look and function of the car.
This meticulous process even used authentic parts and techniques.
This motor, known for its striking diamond white finish with olympic blue detailing, will go up for an estimated price of estimated price of £80,000.
The auction is scheduled for 7 December at the Warwickshire Event Centre.
