A range of options – including the new Cheese Pigs in Blankets and Ultimate Vegan Footlong Pig in Blanket – will available for pre-order for £5 for those living in London.

Slots can be pre-ordered now via a dedicated website.

The launch is in celebration of Aldi‘s Pigs in Blankets Restaurant – which is set to reopen in Shoreditch, London, for its second year.

Although shoppers outside the capital won’t have access to the delivery service, they will be able to enter a giveaway.

It comes after The Sun’s Rosie Taylor compared pigs in blankets from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Lidl, Waitrose and Aldi.

She ranked Tesco’s version the highest for taste, at 8/10, and Lidl’s the lowest, at 3/10.

Aldi’s version only got a 4/10 for taste, but performed well on value for money giving it an overall rating of 12/20 – higher than Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons and Lidl.

Rosie said: “Aldi’s pigs in blankets looked a bit odd as the sausages were long and thin, with a small bit of bacon wrapped around the middle like a napkin ring.

“The bacon was crispy and had a rich, smoky bacon taste – but unfortunately, the sausage was bland and lacking in seasoning.

“At just 90p per 100g, these were the cheapest fresh pigs in blankets we tried. They weren’t amazing but they were pretty good for the price.”

I tried the newest & most random Christmas food – the turkey pasta was great but the canned pigs in blankets were gross

This month, the supermarket also announced it would be releasing a special pie in its Scottish stores – filled with pigs in blankets.

The £2.99 snack has a filling of tender, seasoned sausage wrapped in crispy bacon encased into a traditional, flaky Scotch pie shell.

But shoppers will have to be quick as only 4,000 of the tasty treats will be available when they hit shelves on December 12.

And, in another quirky Christmas launch, the budget supermarket has also launched two bizarre new Christmas-inspired hot sauces that have divided shoppers.

The Brussels Sprouts Hot Sauce and Spiced Cranberry Hot Honey will be available from November 28 for £3.49.

One confused Facebook user wrote: “That is not how I think of Brussel Sprouts.”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Our latest collaboration with Sauce Shop might be our most controversial yet.

“Love them or hate them, we’re confident this unique hot sauce will win over even the most sprout averse.”
