While the actress has not yet commented publicly on the talks, this news comes shortly after series creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge delivered the project’s first script.

Prime Video greenlit the series back in May.

It came hot on the heels of Phoebe’s three-year, $60 million overall deal with the streaming giant.

The show promises to follow the globe-trotting adventures of Lara Croft, the famed archaeologist and adventurer introduced in the Tomb Raider video game series in 1996.

Amazon’s partnership with Crystal Dynamics – the franchise’s rights holder – extends beyond television, encompassing potential film projects and a new Tomb Raider video game currently in development.

In a statement made earlier this year, Phoebe shared her enthusiasm for the series, saying: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode.

“Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators.

“Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke added: “This will be an epic, globetrotting series.

“Fans and newcomers alike can look forward to exhilarating adventures that honor the legacy of this iconic character.”

Lara Croft’s legacy spans decades and over 100 million video game copies sold worldwide.

The character has also seen success on the big screen, beginning with Angelina Jolie’s portrayal in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which grossed $131.1 million domestically and became the first video game adaptation to surpass $100 million at the U.S. box office.

Angelina reprised the role in the 2003 sequel, though its performance fell short at $65.6 million domestically.

The franchise was rebooted in 2018 with Alicia Vikander starring as Lara Croft.

Sophie Turner’s potential casting adds to her growing list of projects, including her recent portrayal of British crime boss Joan Harrington in ITV’s Joan.

She is also set to appear in Prime Video’s Haven.
